Knowing the customer before you approach.
Knowing the customer before you approach.
Doing some research on your target audience and learning about their wants and needs before approaching can prove to be extremely valuable. It is essential for any business to know their potential customers in order to be able to provide a product or service that truly solves a pain or a problem, and is able to resolve the want or need that the customer has.
Finding success on social media
I recently watched a fantastic interview with Gary Vaynerchek, where he described the 3 things that entrepreneurs should be doing to succeed on social media. The very first thing that he mentioned was also what he deemed to be most important; researching your customer and knowing them before you approach.
The Takeaway
What I found to be particularly interesting was learning about a tool that I had not been utilizing, Twitter.com/search. In the interview, Gary highlighted the power of the ability to actually search what customers are looking for, read about what they want, and then “jump into the cocktail party” when you are ready to offer something that can be of use. Knowing the customer before you approach ensures that you make the most of the time spent in front of the target audience. Truly offering something of value will maximizes efficiency and effectiveness for all parties involved. Of course, the next step is to conduct some follow up Q&A and continue to “learn by listening and not by talking”. After all, this is what consumers want—to be heard. Isn’t that what we all want?
